Everyone Loves Wild Salmon, Don't They?

Wild Salmon Express 2010

Calling residents of the Fraser River Basin,

Come out to meet the Wild Salmon Express (WiSE) on its 3500+ km journey through the Fraser River Basin and your community this August, 2010. Come share salmon stories with us as we traverse the rivershed. Come join us near the road side and the rivers, and share and hear about the salmon initiatives happening around you.

The 2010 Wild Salmon Express will travel the Fraser River Basin from August 1 through Aug 31, 2010. These wild salmon supporters will cycle through the Fraser's 13 sub- watersheds with a mission of connecting the voices, the stories, the knowledge, the concerns and the people who live near the waters of the Fraser River, enabling people to take concrete action based on watershed wisdom to promote the sustainability of salmon stocks for future generations. The physical feat will be undertaken as a means of drawing people together in support of the Pacific wild salmon runs. This summer's Ripple Relay of the Fraser River is a 31 day long Tour de Fraser in the season when spawning sockeye salmon travel upriver.

The 2010 Wild Salmon Express aims to connect with First Nations and non First-Nations, their leaders young and old, MPs, MLAs, local government representatives, fishermen, conservationists....and salmon enthusiasts of all sorts.

Come join us!

Come join us as we stop in at various rest stops and points of interest including hatcheries, dams, stream contamination sites, paved streams and discovery centres.

Come join us cycling from community to community with salmon banners and flags.

Especially, come sign and deliver postcards addressed to MP Fin Donnelly supporting Bill C-518 calling for closed containment for fish farms (postcard below):

Come take your picture with the salmon and take part in our Facebook Profile Picture challenge.

Come sign our banner to be delivered to the start of the Cohen Inquiry's evidentiary hearings in October.

Come learn about what is happening to the salmon and learn what actions you can take to keep and care for wild salmon forever.

Come out to meet us and act for the wild salmon.

Support the Salmon!

We are now set-up to receive pledges of support toward awareness, habitat restoration, and Ripple Effect projects, and thank "Salmon-folk" from all over for their generosity in pledging support for this cause. Visit www.ripplerelay.ca and use the PayPal option to contribute or email michelle@ripplerelay.ca for tax receipt option. Our budget to finish the expedition is $4000, and we are now looking to match this as many times over as possible to create a budget to support groups in their salmon conservation efforts.

All fundraising above the cost of our event will be put towards the following:
1. fundraising for 2011 full length Fraser River Relay Swim
2. habitat restoration projects from StreamKeepers projects
3. artistic awareness and visibility projects
4. developing a young leader rivershed project development program and corresponding grant delivery structure.
