When the wild salmon and the natural flow of life itself are threatened, we need to pause, to notice what’s happening, to assess the sustainability of it all.We need to consider what we want to do about it.Art helps us to pause, to see. It reminds us of the mystery of it all; the fact that we only understand a piece of the whole.Sharing the table with food and friends nourishes and helps us to consider, to realize, to dream.
The artist shows us other points of view, stretching our perceptions, encouraging us in our own creativity of vision and dreaming.Food nourishes and sustains us so that WE may nourish and sustain our environment, our world.
Our creativity and our nourishment both depend on the wild:the untrammeled that underlies it all.Preservation of the wild salmon, of the wilds of the world, of the unbound spirit within, is integral to our existence.
There is no doubt that our salmon are threatened. We are threatened. When we come together to share the table, to appreciate the art, to engage in our own creativity, we experience the connectivity of it all.We can find ways to appreciate, to enjoy, and to work together to protect the wildness that sustains us.
Let’s give thanks to the artists. Thanks to those who provide our food. Thanks to the salmon.
Let’s give thanks to each other as we migrate on this journey:upstream, downstream, or lolling about. There’s work to be done and we’re blessed to be able to do it together.Artists all, let’s create our world.Let’s nourish and be nourished, a part of it all.
