Government Rewriting Laws Serving to Shut Us Down

May 24, 2012 by Anissa

2 years in jail plus at $75,000.00 fine... Yep, that is what the Liberal Government will be pushing through on May 30th to make into law and we could be charged, fined and put in jail for breaking that law if we keep informing the public on where we are finding viruses in farmed salmon.  Our laws are being refined to protect these mega farmers and we are not allowed to know what diseases/ viruses are sitting in farmed salmon / specifically where they came from/ to be sold and washed down drains into your local watershed.

As quoted in The Province by Ethan Baron who broke the story, "The Animal Health Act, expected to be passed into law by months' end, expressly over-rides B.C.'s Freedom of Information Act, duct-taping shut the mouths of any citizens..."  He goes on to explain there would be no due process in administrative penalties, another attack on our rights, and fines would have to be paid.

Alexandra Morton has written about this further in her blog entitled,  The Bill that would make it punishable to speak about disease in animals.

Talk to your MLA, call them today. We must use our democratic system in addition to any actions taken.
